November 13th update

Bennett’s pink eye is gone. It sure doesn’t take long for it to start looking and feeling better which is good. We are still using the antibiotic in it and kept the other eye from getting it. His cough seems a little better but still has one. He hopes it goes away soon, he sure doesn’t want to be coughing when he is deer hunting next weekend.

He was extremely tired tonight and slept for a couple hours until about 7 p.m. He got up this morning at 5:15 because he had basketball practice at 6:00 a.m. before school.

We will go and check his counts tomorrow or Sunday. We pray that his liver and kidney levels are much better and close to normal. We’re hoping his ANC is still in safe range.

Tomorrow night is the Sadie Hawkins Dance which is a more casual attire. Him and Lindy are going with a group. The fun of high school.

We pray and hope Bennett continues going strong! We are counting our blessings and are so thankful for every one of them!

November 11th update

flagHappy Veteran’s Day!
Thank you to all the Veteran’s and the current soldiers fighting for our freedom! May God bless America!!

birthday cupcakeHappiest Birthday Sid!

Bennett has been busy with basketball practice every night for a couple hours. Today since there wasn’t school, he had practice this morning. So far, he really likes it and the coaches.

I took him to the PAC at Good Sam’s here in Benton and he has pink eye. I thought yesterday when I came home that his eye looked red. When he woke up this morning his eye was mattered shut and it really itched. He got an antibiotic for his eye and he will be able to go to school tomorrow.

I also talked to her about his cough that he has had for about 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. It’s not real bad and the Delysum cough syrup seems to help. She said it looked like he had sinus drainage but it didn’t look infected. That the drainage is probably irritating his throat and causing him to cough. We sure don’t want to start this again since it really got him down with the sinusitis.

She wants him to take claritan allergy pills to see if that will help. He took them before and not much difference but we feel we have to start with this. Also, I asked for the prescription tussionex cough syrup since the over the counter isn’t working. We will see how he does with this for about a week before we look into doing something different.

The weather has been beautiful, hope everyone has been able to enjoy it!

November 8th update

Bennett is doing good. He has started coughing the last few days, it’s not congested which is good. He took Delysum cough syrup last night and today plus is using his inhalers. We pray it goes away soon nor turn into anything else. I was hoping he wouldn’t have the cough like he did last year after his sinusitis surgery in the spring.

He had a great weekend enjoying the beautiful weather. On Saturday, Bennett was more tired than usual and just didn’t have much energy. He has been going to bed earlier too. We worked around the deer camp at my Dad and Mom’s, such a warm day!

After church today, his girlfriend, Hamilton and I went looking for Sadie Hawkins Dance shirts in Carbondale. We went to the movies tonight to see the Christmas Carol and it was a real disappoint, I don’t understand why they have to ruin a good story.

We pray Bennett’s counts are doing good and his liver/kidney levels are better. We don’t check them until next weekend and his next appt in St. Louis is next Tuesday.

We ask for special prayers for Sid’s second cousin, Eric that was diagnosed in June with Ewing Sarcoma. He had surgery to remove a new mass last week and the first tumor is growing with chemo, what a trying time for him and his family. May God bless them and all children and adults fighting this horrible disease.

November 5th update

Nothing is really new, Yeah! That’s always a good sign too. Bennett is still doing great, Praise the Lord!

It’s such a blessing that he is staying healthy through all the flu and virus bugs going around! Hopefully the vitamin C he takes couple times a day is helping. It also has to help that his ANC has been a little higher than what it was several months ago.

He still is taking 75% of chemo treatment dosage and has been for the past six months. We hope this is enough to keep him in remission forever!

Last night, he had open gym at the highschool, he really enjoyed it. Tonight they had a meeting after school and their first official basketball practice is on Monday.

Bennett has been busy the last few days getting the boat and duck decoys ready for duck hunting with his Dad and Hamilton. Duck season officially comes in next weekend.

We treasure every day when God blesses us with a day of good health! Amen!

November 3rd update

Bennett is doing really good. He got his report card on Friday and had A’s and B’s. I talked to all of his teachers and they had so many nice things to say about him; they really enjoy having him in class. He is very well behaved and is very mature. I joked and asked if he talked their leg off? LOL, Bennett is a little shy at times.

He started lifting weights again at home. He said today that his arms were sore. He is getting ready for basketball which practice officially starts on Monday. He hesitated about playing, he can’t run as fast and as long as he once was able too and probably won’t until after he has completed his chemo treatments. He wishes that he could run and play better. He is really hard on himself. We think he does great especially because of having all the side effects from the chemo. We pray he does well and doesn’t get discouraged.

We pray that his bones stay strong and that the steroids he takes doesn’t cause them to become any weaker causing broken bones, fractures, etc. He is very athletic and after his treatments next year he will have three good years of high school sports. (hopefully he will notice a difference in his energy, breathing, and overall ability).

He had a dermatologist appt today and it went well. He has trouble with his face, back and chest breaking out some. Along with being a teenager, the steroids he takes also increases acne. So far, the Dr. has been able to prescribe topical ointment that has really helped. He does a good job staying on top of it.

“To all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God.” John 1:12

November 1st update

Bennett’s ANC today was 3,920 from 2,100 two weeks ago. WBC were 5.6 and neutrophils were 70. We expected it to be higher because of the steroids he just finished, steroids usually elevates his WBC.

His hemoglobin is 12.3 from 12.4 and platelets went down to 159 from 216. His createnine level was still high at 18.75 which is your kidney function. His liver levels are still high but down to 55 and 197. The billirubin total was the highest it has been at 1.20. We pray that his kidney and liver levels improve.

Bennett has had a fun weekend. We made a haunted house out of our garage and Bennett, his girlfriend, Hamilton and his buddies worked on it Friday night and practiced.

On Saturday morning, Bennett got up at 1:00 am. to go duck hunting with Bob and Scott again in Shelbyville. They saw alot of ducks but not very many came in so Bennett didn’t even shoot.

He was extremely tired and took a long nap Sat. afternoon. He woke up and didn’t feel well. I took his temperature and thankfully it was normal. He thought he had a sore throat but so far it hasn’t turned into anything.

Saturday night, Hamilton invited his family and friends to the Page’s Haunted Garage. Hamilton had three friends along with Bennett and Lindy that dressed up and scared about 25 people that came to be “frightened” on Halloween night. It was a Blast!

Today, after church, Sid, Bennett and Hamilton took the boat out on the lake. We went tonight to our church wiener roast so another busy FUN Fall day!

Hope everyone had a blessed weekend and enjoying the fall weather!
