July 21st update
Bennett’s ANC dropped today to 312 from 1,092 on Friday. He had 2.4 WBC from 4.2 and 13 neutrophils from 26. The 312 from today though is sure better than the 54 and 78 that we had last week in the hospital. It takes some time and usually several neupogen shots for the ANC to stay. Dr wanted to see if his ANC would stay around 1,000 or more before given him more shots. Now, they know he needs them.
The Dr. ordered him today to have a neupogen shot today and tomorrow. We were lucky enough that are pharmacy here had the two shots so we didn’t have to drive to St Louis to get them. And our nurse friend Lori offered graciously to come over and give them to Bennett. Dr. wants us to check counts again on Wednesday (which we expect them to be higher from the shots).
She may want him to have his chemo treatment this Friday if she likes his ANC number on Wed.? I would think he would need more than two days of shots before giving him chemo right on top of it? Last Friday it was above 1,000 and dropped today pretty low without chemo. I have expressed my concerns and this is where we have to trust the Dr. I do know that she really wants him to get some chemo asap because he is going on 3 weeks now without any chemo to fight any leukemia cells hiding in his body.
His hemoglobin went up again to 10.3 from 9.8 and platelets went up to 243 from 156. This is Great! This is the highest these two blood counts have been for several months. So, his bone marrow is making some cells!
Bennett’s baseball team played tonight in their region tournament in Carbondale playing Nashville. Bennett got to bat once getting out on an infield fly ball. We won by the 10 run rule. Yeah! They play again tomorrow night at 8:00 against Carbondale.
