April 16th update

Bennett felt good today. He had to rest up Saturday and Sunday after his big volleyball game on Friday. He was worn out and didn’t do much over the weekend. Today he felt like going to the park and going to Pop’s for lunch. He also went with his Grandpa and Ma Page fishing, I don’t think they got a bite.

He is doing homework now with Niki.

Tomorrow we go to St Louis and he will receive another spinal tap, a shot of chemo in the back, 3 chemo shots in the muscles of his legs and an IV chemo in his port. He will be sedated for the spinal tap so he can eat/drink after midnight tonight.

We pray that his blood counts are good and we won’t need a transfusion before we can begin his treatments.

April 12th update

The day before the Big day! Bennett is so excited about the pep session tomorrow. He says he is going to play volleyball and help his team beat the girls!

Bennett has had a fun day! He moved a little slow this morning, the nurse came and gave him his chemo in the morning and drew blood for a test.

I begged him to go to town with me and run errands – it’s kinda my excuse to get him going! He seats in the car but it helps to get him out.

He did some homework and Mrs. Jones (cousin Niki) came over and tutored him. Niki is his homebound teacher. She also is BMS 6th grade math teacher. Below is a picture of the two of them studying!

We got the results of his blood test and his ANC is 1,037 which is good. Since his ANC is over 1,000, he doesn’t have to wear a mask. We are still very careful not to be around sick people plus wash our hands continually. His (hemoglobin) RBC is at 8.5 which is low. They don’t transfuse until it’s 7. The normal range is 11 to 13.

God answered are prayers with a good day and a high ANC so Bennett should be at the pep session tomorrow.

April 11th update

Bennett feels good today! He hasn’t been nausea. The home health nurse came and gave him his chemo and his vital signs were good.

I called the Dr. this afternoon to check on his spinal tap, he had yesterday and she confirmed that it was clean.  They don’t expect the blasts to come back while he is on chemo.

He did some homework and also went outside and shot a few basketball hoops. We went to Gpa & ma Johnston’s tonight. Bennett and Hamilton rode the four-wheeler plus played with the beagle puppies.

The newest bennettpage.org fan!

This is Harry, he is an 8 week old puggle. A puggle is a pug and beagle mix. Bennett’s cousins, Drew and Sarah, got Harry on Monday, and Bennett and Hamilton got to play with Harry tonight for a little while. He already is a bennettpage.org fan!

April 10th update

Well, we are back from St Louis. Bennett’s nausea is better. He is now on anti-nausea medicine every 6 hours so hopefully he doesn’t get as sick as he was yesterday.

His counts were good, no transfusion needed. His ANC dropped though from 1,708 to 765.

His back is sore from the spinal tap and the injection of chemo into the spine. He also is very tired. Hope to get results from the spinal tap, Dr. expects it to be clean.

He came home with his port accessed so the home health nurse can come tomorrow to give his chemo. She will come Wednesday through Friday.

Bennett is looking forward to the pep session! I am praying that he feels good enough to come and his counts don’t keep him from going.

April 9th Update

Bennett had a lousy day. He felt bad, very nausea and threw up several times this morning. He didn’t start eating until late afternoon and finally set up in bed. I called the Dr. and they indicated this is a very common side effect from the chemo drug that he had last week. We start this same chemo tomorrow at SLCH and he will have this chemo four days in a row.

He also will get another chemo shot in the back tomorrow. They will have to sedate him so he can’t eat or drink after midnight tonight.

I hate to see him like this but we know that we have to go through several bad days to get to a good day.
